- Aboriginal People’s and Torres Strait Islander People’s Languages
- Languages and dialects spoken by spoken by First Nations peoples across Australia.
- Agency (Customer)
- Queensland Government departments, statutory authorities and Queensland Government funded non-Government organisations.
- Artificial Intelligence Assisted Translation (AIAT)
- A translation service type where a translator combines human translation with artificial intelligence tools to automate aspects of the translation process.
- The Australian Sign Language Interpreters’ Association (ASLIA)
- A volunteer, non-profit body and is the national peak organisation representing the needs and interests of Auslan/English interpreters and Deaf Interpreters in Australia.
- Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators (AUSIT)
- Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators - the national association for the translating and interpreting profession.
- Australian sign language (AUSLAN)
- The recognised language of the Australian Deaf community, distinct from spoken languages.
- Computer-Assisted Translations (CAT)
- An approach to preparing translated materials that involves a translator combines human translation with CAT tools to automate aspects of the translation process.
- CAT checking services
- A translation service type where a translator reviews CAT and AIAT-generated translations to assess their appropriateness without extensive re-writing.
- Emergency priority connection
- An unplanned interpreting service type designed for genuine emergency situations, aligned with Queensland Government definition of “emergency.
- Interpreting services
- Specialised professional skill which enables communication between people who speak or sign a different language.
- Language category
- Agencies can choose from the following three categories for interpreting and translating services:
Category 1: Aboriginal People’s and Torres Strait Islander People’s Languages
Category 2: Languages other Than English
Category 3: Auslan and Deaf Interpreting
- Language Service Provider (LSP)
- A supplier of language services who is party to this PSP arrangement.
- Languages Other than English (LOTE)
- Languages spoken worldwide, excluding English, Auslan, and Aboriginal peoples’ and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ languages.
- Minimum engagement period
- This is the minimum amount of time an agency can book a service.
- National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI)
- The national standards and certifying authority for translators and interpreters in Australia.
- On-site interpreting
- An interpreting service mode where the interpreter attends in-person.
- Planned translation
- A translation timeframe that Suppliers must provide quote within forty-eight (48) hours and deliver within agreed timeframes.
- Rapid translation
- A translation timeframe that Suppliers must confirm within one (1) hour and deliver within three (3) hours.
- Services
- Services (eg. interpreting) that Suppliers have agreed to provide to Queensland Government in accordance with the terms of the PSP.
- Service category
- A general description of the types, sub-types and modes of services provided under the service and/or the characteristics that define the service category.
- Sight translation
- A method of interpreting where an interpreter reads out translation of text written in English.
- Short notice translation
- A translation timeframe that Suppliers must confirm within four (4) and delivered within 72 hours.
- Preferred Supplier Panel (PSP)
- A common use arrangement for procuring language services that allows Queensland Government to engage interpreting, translation and associated services from pre-approved suppliers under conditions contained within the PSP.
- Telephone interpreting
- An interpreting service mode where interpreting is provided over the telephone
- Translating services
- Professional services that accurately convert written materials from one language to a different language.
- Urgent translation
- A translation timeframe that Suppliers must provide a quote within four hours and be delivered within 36 hours.
- Video interpreting
- An interpreting service mode which occurs over a video platform.
