Interpreting and translating

The Queensland Government recognises that a significant number of people require interpreting and translating when accessing services in Queensland Government funded non-government organisations.

Difference between an interpreter and a translator:

  • An interpreter deals with the spoken word.
  • A translator deals with written text.
  • Right to an interpreter

Queensland Health patients, clients and consumers have a right to a qualified interpreter if they need one when using a Queensland Health and Hospital and Health Services. Qualified interpreters are provided at no charge.

  • Hospital and Health Service Interpreter Services

Interpreter Service Coordinators (ISCs) coordinate language services delivery for their Hospital and Health Service (HHS). Here you will find a list of all HHS ISCs and their contact details.
