Re-accreditation

The accreditation process typically occurs in a four-year cycle through which prevocational training providers demonstrate compliance with the National Framework for Prevocational (PGY1 and PGY2) Medical Training in their delivery of postgraduate year one (PGY1) and postgraduate year two (PGY2) medical training.

Training providers with existing accreditation for prevocational training should apply for reaccreditation in the year prior to the current status' expiry. The reaccreditation process provides the opportunity to demonstrate the training program's compliance with the national standards and requirements. This is typically achieved through completion and submission of:

  • An accreditation application form, which includes a prevocational doctor journey, questions, and recommended evidence.
  • A list of terms to be accredited within the program, with all details required of the national framework.
  • Relevant evidence to substantiate the self-assessed compliance with the standards.

2025 applications can be provided in MS Word or Excel format using these templates:

The prevocational doctor journey is contained within each application template and can also be viewed separately here.

Following submission of the application and evidence, PMAQ works with the provider to arrange interviews with key people involved in management and governance of the training program. This includes prevocational doctors, term and clinical supervisors, medical education and workforce staff, medical leaders and hospital or health service executive. Typically, an interview scheduled is created by the provider (with guidance from PMAQ). Templates for typical interview and site visit arrangements are below.

Providers should contact PMAQ to determine which of the following site visit templates is relevant to their reaccreditation:

Providers are invited to open the site visit with a presentation which highlights the strengths and opportunities in their program. This guide  (PDF 92 kB) provides detail of what is expected during the provider presentation.

Providers should review these instructions when preparing for a re-accreditation (PDF 69 kB).
