A localised RHD education and awareness program is currently being developed in collaboration with:

  • Townsville Hospital and Health Service's Public Health team
  • community health services
  • schools
  • First Nation families and community.

Healthy skin

Healthy skin resources have been created as part of a public health response to rising cases of skin infections, melioidosis and typhoid (especially during the wet season or after heavy rainfall). Queensland Health worked with local First Nation health workers in Townsville and Palm Island and Townsville's Public Health Unit to create materials focused on skin health for First Nation communities.

Key messages include:

  • protect your skin by wearing gloves and shoes when working outdoors
  • covering up skin sores
  • heading to the clinic when things aren’t getting better.

You can also download the Townsville RHD Resource Guide (PDF 673 kB) which showcases the entire resource suite and suggested uses.
