Voluntary Assisted Dying in Queensland Quarterly Report: October to December 2024
This quarterly report summarises activity from 1 October to 31 December 2024 and provides an overview of the voluntary assisted dying process as well as key contacts and links to additional resources for more information about voluntary assisted dying.
The report shows that from 1 October to 31 December 2024:
- 498 people had a first assessment to assess their eligibility to access voluntary assisted dying
- 264 people died from administration of a voluntary assisted dying substance
The report provides details about who accessed voluntary assisted dying from 1 October to 31 December 2024:
- people were aged between 21 and 101 years and the median age was 74
- 50% of people lived in regional, rural or remote parts of the state
- 78% of people were accessing palliative care
- 80% of people had a cancer diagnosis.
The Review Board is the independent oversight body for voluntary assisted dying in Queensland under the Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2021.
