Voluntary Assisted Dying in Queensland Quarterly Report: January to March 2026

This quarterly report summarises activity from 1 January to 31 March 2026. It includes an overview of the voluntary assisted dying process as well as key contacts and links to additional resources for more information about voluntary assisted dying.

The report shows that from 1 January to 31 March 2026:

• 609 people had a first assessment to assess their eligibility to access voluntary assisted dying
• 288 people died from administration of a voluntary assisted dying substance

The report provides details about who accessed voluntary assisted dying from 1 January to 31 March 2026:

• people were aged between 37 and 102 years and the median age was 76
• 55% of people lived in regional or remote parts of the state
• 76% of people were accessing or have accessed palliative care
• 76% of people had a cancer diagnosis.

The Review Board is the independent oversight body for voluntary assisted dying in Queensland under the Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2021.
