Patient consent and samples

When researchers engage Pathology Queensland laboratory services for commercially sponsored and investigator-driven clinical trials, access may be required to information that contains identifiable—or potentially re-identifiable—patient data.

Patient consent is required to access materials for research that were originally collected for patient diagnosis.

If you are undertaking approved research or health service related activities and consent can't be obtained, you can find out more about confidential information access ❯

Tissue samples may only be released on the possibility of retaining some tissue for future diagnostic requirements.

Cut tissue sections will be provided where required.

Diagnostic tissue block requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Archived tissue recall and pathologist review incur additional costs. You will be advised of these costs before the work is undertaken.
