Forensic odontologists

Our forensic odontologists and dentists help pathologists identify deceased persons and in death investigations. There are specific requirements for this role.

As a forensic odontologist at Forensic and Scientific Services (FSS) you'll be examining and evaluating dental evidence in coronial cases.

Qualification and registration requirements

To practise as a forensic odontologist, or forensic dental officer at FSS you'll need to have both:

  • a Degree recognised by the Dental Board of Australia for registration as a Dentist in Australia
  • registration as a general dentist with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

What duties you'll undertake

Working in an FSS role, you may:

  • support forensic pathologists with investigations, including coronial cases and disaster victim identification
  • examine and report on dentally-related deaths and traumatic dental and facial injuries.
