Review into Wolston Park Hospital
On 8 August 2024 the Queensland Government announced the independent Wolston Park Hospital Review of health services provided at Wolston Park Hospital between 1 January 1950 and 31 December 2000.
The Review was led by mental health expert Professor Robert Bland AM and provided an opportunity for former patients and family members or carers to describe their experiences during the period.
Terms of reference
The Wolston Park Hospital Review was undertaken in accordance with the Terms of Reference (PDF 199 kB). The review did not:
- compel people to participate
- determine liability nor the truth of any participants’ experiences
- provide a clinical assessment of care
- pay compensation
- judge participants or anyone mentioned by a participant, or to reach a conclusion about what may or may not have happened
- resolve differences of views
- provide legal representation.
Final report
The final report of the Review was released on 19 December 2025.
Please be aware the report includes descriptions of alleged physical and sexual violence and human rights abuses as told by the participants who spoke to the Review. It is acknowledged the content may be distressing.
The reporting of this content is not an indictment or conclusion that the events occurred as described or that there is liability to be found in the actions. Rather it provides an account of the reported experiences of those who lived, were treated, and who had family members and loved ones at Wolston Park Hospital during the review period.
