Fee updates

Fees are reviewed on 1 October each year. On 1 October 2025 fees were increased by 3.4% in line with the Government's indexation policy.

Licence fees

Every time you apply for a radiation licence you will need to pay a fee.

Licence application types:

• Possession
• Use
• Transport
• Replace your licence

Possession Licence fees

Applications for a licence to possess radiation sources require the payment of fees that are made up of:

• application fee
• licence fee, consisting of:
  • base fee
  • a fee for each radiation source (i.e. radiation apparatus, sealed radioactive substance or type of unsealed radioactive substance)

Note:

1. Application fees are not refunded if your application is unsuccessful or if you decide to withdraw your application.
2. If you are a first time applicant, you will not need to pay the additional fees for radiation sources as you should not have sources in your possession.
3. If you are applying to renew your licence, you will not need to pay an application fee.

¹If the applicant is seeking a licence to possess security enhanced sources, the application fee is: $1,079.56.

Approved plans

You need to pay a fee for applications to change an approved plan or to apply to have a Transport Security Plan approved. Application fees are not refunded if your application is unsuccessful or if you decide to withdraw your application.

Approved plans include:

• Radiation Safety and Protection Plan
• Security Plan—security enhanced sources
• Transport Security Plan—security enhanced sources.

Use Licence fees

Applications for a licence to use radiation sources come with fees that are made up of the:

• application fee
• licence fee.

Application fees are not refunded if your application is unsuccessful or if you decide to withdraw your application. If you are applying to renew your licence you will not need to pay an application fee.

Additional security and criminal history check fee

Applications to use security-enhanced sources require an additional fee for the security and criminal history check.

Transport Licence fees

Applications for a licence to transport radioactive substances come with fees that are made up of the:

• application fee
• licence fee.

Application fees are not refunded if your application is unsuccessful or if you decide to withdraw your application. If you are applying to renew your licence you will not need to pay an application fee.

Additional security and criminal history check fee:

Applications to transport security-enhanced sources require an additional fee for the security and criminal history check.

Replace your licence

You need to pay a fee to replace a licence that has been:

• lost
• stolen
• damaged
• destroyed.

Approval fees

You will need to pay an application fee for approvals to:

• Acquire a radiation source—purchasing or otherwise obtaining a new radiation apparatus, sealed radioactive substance or type of unsealed radioactive substance for your practice
• Relocate a radiation source—moving a radiation apparatus, sealed radioactive substance or type of unsealed radioactive substance to a location outside of Queensland
• Dispose of radioactive material—disposing of radioactive material above prescribed concentrations.

Application fees are not refunded if your application is unsuccessful or if you decide to withdraw your application.

Certificate fees

Every time you apply for a radiation certificate you will need to pay a fee.

Certificate application types:

• Accreditation Certificate
• Radiation Safety Officer Certificate
• Replace your certificate.

Accreditation Certificate

Applications for an Accreditation Certificate come with fees that are made up of the:

• application fee
• certificate fee.

Application fees are not refunded if your application is unsuccessful or if you decide to withdraw your application. If you are applying to renew your certificate you will not need to pay an application fee.

Radiation Safety Officer Certificate

Applications for a Radiation Safety Officer Certificate come with fees that are made up of the:

• application fee
• certificate fee.

Application fees are not refunded if your application is unsuccessful or if you decide to withdraw your application. If you are applying to renew your certificate you will not need to pay an application fee.

Replace your certificate

You need to pay an application fee to replace a certificate that has been:

• lost
• stolen
• damaged
• destroyed.

Copies of the public register

You can request a full or partial copy of public register. You will need to pay a fee for each page of the public register you request a copy of.
