CPCRE - Education - Indigenous Program

Target group: The primary targeted groups for the Indigenous program are:

• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health professionals
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Liaison Officers
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers
• Non-Indigenous palliative care health professionals

Objectives/Aims:

• To improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health professionals' (including Liaison Officers and Health Workers) knowledge and understanding of palliative care
• To enhance palliative care health professionals' sensitivity to and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures

Details:

The Centre works with representatives of local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to provide workshops and education resources to increase understanding of cultural difference. In conjunction with the PEPA project team, the Centre facilitates education programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health professionals to increase their capacity to support palliative care patients in their community.
