Implementation of the Government response to Recommendation 5

Youth Mental Health

The Department of Health has engaged Health Outcomes International (HOI) and the Synergy Nursing and Midwifery Research Institute to conduct the independent review of the transition and alignment between adolescent/youth and adult mental health services in Queensland.

As part of this review, HOI completed:

  • An Environmental Analysis Discussion Paper of their systematic literature review to establish an evidence-base of contemporary service models and transition pathways between adolescent and adult mental health services.
  • Service mapping to identify the standard structure and types of public mental health services provided across Hospital and Health Services, gaps in service delivery and areas where service innovation has been implemented.
  • Case study consultations, to obtain stakeholder views on the current range of adolescent and adult mental health services and any innovative service models that have been implemented.

HOI provided a Final Review Report to the Department of Health on 30 June 2017.  The recommendations in the final report are not Government Policy.

It is being considered by the Department of Health in the context of the findings from the other reports undertaken as part of the implementation of the Government response to the BAC COI Report.

The Youth Mental Health Program Oversight Committee established by Mental Health Alcohol and Other Drugs Branch (MHAODB), Clinical Excellence Division, Department of Health will oversee the Youth Mental Health Program. The Youth Mental Health Program includes progressing work associated with the outcomes of reports and reviews completed as part of the successful implementation of the Queensland Government response to the Barrett Adolescent Centre (BAC) COI Report.
