Outpatient Services

The Spinal Injuries Unit Outpatients Department offers a range of general and specialty outpatient clinics for the ongoing follow up of people that have sustained a spinal cord injury. This service is not for persons requiring an orthopaedic surgeon's opinion for such things as back pain, disc disease or sciatica. There are a range of specialist led general clinics as well as more specific focus clinics such as

  • Urology
  • Spasticity Management
  • Sex & Fertility
  • Upper Limb Clinic
  • Plastic Surgery
  • Adult spina bifida

The Spinal Injuries Unit Outpatient Department is part of Metro South Health's Central Referral Hub.  This provides a single point of entry for all referrals to Princess Alexandra Hospital, including the Spinal Injuries Unit.  If you have not had an outpatient appointment in the last 12 months, your GP will need to provide a new medical referral.  Once the referral is received, patients are placed on a waiting list for appointments which are then booked no more than 6 weeks in advance.

Referrals can be faxed to 1300 364 248

If your GP requires any additional information, this is available at the Central Referral Hub's website, or by phoning 1300 364 155.

People that are travelling from outside the greater Brisbane area to attend their clinic appointment should contact their local hospital to enquire what assistance may be available to them under the Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme (PTSS).  Applications for assistance must be made prior to travelling and can not be done retrospectively.

If you have any queries, please contact the department on 07 3176 2641.
