PEPA/IPEPA

Program of Experience in the Palliative Approach (PEPA) and Indigenous PEPA (IPEPA) empower health professionals to deliver palliative care through providing free placements, workshops and learning resources.

PEPA is a national program led by Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and is implemented in all Australian states and territories.

PEPA/IPEPA Queensland sits with and is project managed by the CPCRE.

Clinical placements

Placements immerse health professionals of all health disciplines in a specialist palliative care service.  Supported by a PEPA/IPEPA mentor, observational placements are designed to develop skills, knowledge and confidence of clinicians whose usual practice includes care for people affected by life-limiting illness. The placement runs for a minimum of two days and a maximum of five days, Monday through Friday.

PEPA also offers reverse placements. A specialist educator provides free customised learning programs onsite at your workplace. Training is flexible, provided over two to four days, and designed to align specifically with your organisation’s learning needs.

To express interest in taking part in a free clinical placement, apply via the national placements website.

Workshops

PEPA and IPEPA provide a range of free workshops that focus on developing the knowledge, skills and confidence of the non-specialist health workforce to provide a palliative approach to care in an inclusive and culturally responsive way for people living with a life-limiting condition.

PEPA workshops are open to both Queensland Health and non-Queensland Health clinicians.

Workshops are organised based on local interest and need. If you would like to attend, want to present at, or would like to see a workshop in your area please contact pepaqld@health.qld.gov.au.

Community engagement

PEPA run a limited number of community engagement visits. These visits support network development, education provision, and planning of future PEPA workshops. If you are interested in a workshop, but want to meet with the IPEPA Project Officer in person first, please contact pepaqld@health.qld.gov.au.
