Implementation of the Government response to Recommendation 3

Youth Mental Health

The QCMHR commenced work on this recommendation in late 2016 and presented the findings of the draft report to the Commission of Inquiry (COI) Implementation Steering Committee (ISC) on 9 February 2017.

In addition to this, QCMHR met with a group of consumers and carers associated with the former Barrett Adolescent Centre on 10 March 2017 to present information on the methodology and findings of the draft report.

The findings of this report have informed development of the initial Model of Service for the Adolescent Extended Treatment Facility  (Recommendation 4).

The QCMHR’s Final Report was tabled at the COI ISC meeting on 2 June 2017 and is not Government Policy.

The Final Report is being considered by the Department of Health to inform the development of clinical and evaluation frameworks for the continuum of services for young people with severe and complex mental health issues in the context of the findings from the other reports undertaken as part of the implementation of the Government response to the BAC COI Report.

The Youth Mental Health Program Oversight Committee established by Mental Health Alcohol and Other Drugs Branch (MHAODB), Clinical Excellence Division, Department of Health will oversee the Youth Mental Health Program. The Youth Mental Health Program includes progressing work associated with the outcomes of reports and reviews completed as part of the successful implementation of the Queensland Government response to the Barrett Adolescent Centre (BAC) COI Report.
