Building Information Modelling

Queensland Health’s Building Information Modelling (BIM) guidance suite supports the consistent delivery of high-quality health infrastructure projects across Queensland.
The suite aligns with the Queensland Government’s Digital Enablement for Queensland Infrastructure – Principles for BIM Implementation (Queensland BIM Policy).
In line with the updated policy, Queensland Health has revised its BIM guidance material. The updated suite includes:
- Project Information Requirements (2026).
- Revised BIM project templates and resources.
- A new Queensland Health dRofus Management Plan.
Together, these documents strengthen digital asset management, improve data quality, and support better project outcomes across Health Infrastructure Queensland (HIQ) projects.
Project Information Requirements
The Project Information Requirements (PIR) set out Queensland Health’s mandatory BIM requirements for health infrastructure projects.
All Queensland Health infrastructure projects must comply with the version of the PIR in effect at the time the project is approved, in accordance with the Queensland Health Capital Infrastructure Project Delivery Policy (QH-POL-374:2023).
The PIR applies to:
- new projects
- asset replacement activities
- major maintenance works.
The PIR must be applied across every stage of planning, design and delivery and read together with the dRofus Management Plan (DOCX 3996 kB) and the Capital Infrastructure Requirements, available by searching ‘Capital Infrastructure Requirements’ on the Department of Health policies page.
Compliance is reviewed at key project milestones through the design assurance review process. Any proposed departures from the PIR must be formally assessed and approved through the governance processes.

dRofus at Health Infrastructure Queensland
dRofus is Queensland Health’s system for managing room and asset information on health infrastructure projects.
It is owned and managed by Health Infrastructure Queensland (HIQ) and will be used on all HIQ projects.
The platform supports:
- space planning and room data management
- asset and FFE data tracking
- budget group management
- procurement and delivery tracking
- improved reporting and design transparency.
By capturing structured room and asset data during project delivery, dRofus enables accurate, consistent information to be handed over to asset management teams at project completion.
How Health Infrastructure Queensland use dRofus
HIQ has developed a Queensland Health-specific dRofus template database to support consistent project delivery and governance.
The template database is designed to minimise risk, improve data quality and manage scope changes in a controlled and transparent way. It:
- aligns with the Australasian Health Facility Guidelines (AusHFG)
- integrates with Queensland Health’s BIM
- supports tracking of procurement, delivery and asset information
- enables structured data transfer into other Queensland Health systems, including SAP S/4HANA.
The Queensland Health dRofus Management Plan (DOCX 3996 kB) sets out requirements for consistent platform use across projects. It defines roles and responsibilities, data standards, governance controls and reporting expectations.
The Design, Innovation and Assurance team undertakes scheduled quality assurance reviews throughout project delivery to support compliance, data integrity and consistent application of standards.
Training and support
HIQ provides training and support which includes:
- overview sessions on Queensland Health BIM requirements
- dRofus fundamentals training
- ongoing implementation support.
