| Community Palliative Care | Community Palliative Care outreach service. This service is available to clients in the Cairns District who have a diagnosis of a life limiting illness and whose life expectancy is predicted as less then six months. Services include comprehensive nursing and psychosocial assessment and support, provision of equipment, funding for home help, respite, home oxygen, Vital Calls system. All services subject to approval once referral received and client assessed. All services coordinated and based at Gordonvale Hospital. |
| Meals on Wheels | Meals on Wheels service coordinated by Gordonvale Hospital. Meals supplied by Hospital and delivered by volunteers. Area from Gordonvale, Aloomba, Edmonton and White Rock. HACC funded. |
| Primary Care Services | Breast Screening 2 yearly Hospital. Well women's health clinics Patient Travel scheme. Non palliative outpatients-initial assessment and referral, treatment for minor injuries and ailments. |
| Accommodation | Accommodation for the families of palliative care patients can be provided at Sunbird Lodge. (refurbished nurses quarters can take up to 5 people). |
Capital Works or Recent Improvements:
Refurbishing of area in hospital that will provide new office space for Palliative care team. This will include conference /education room for staff of the Gordonvale hospital. Completion date March 2008. Old Physio building in process of being demolished. Building being replaced with a purpose built 12 bed unit for step down sub-acute patients. Completion date June 2008. Kitchen at the Hospital was completely renovated and new equipment purchased in 2007. The hospital underwent major renovations in 2002. Officially opened as with Palliative Care as core business in June 2002. |
