The STEPS Program aims to build and sustain support for adults with brain injury, and their families and friends across Queensland. A dedicated STEPS Leader Network has been formed to purposefully link and support our trained STEPS leaders in both the STEPS Skills Program and STEPS Network Group phases. Its main aims are:

  • Provide ongoing support, learning and developmental opportunities for STEPS Leaders
  • Ongoing training and education about brain injury and STEPS leadership
  • Improve links with and amongst STEPS Leaders
  • Opportunity for STEPS Leaders to network with & support each other
  • Facilitate the development of a strong, cohesive STEPS Leader Network
  • Offer STEPS Leaders the opportunity to directly engage with each other and experience peer group learning

The methods used to achieve these aims for STEPS Leaders are:

  • Statewide STEPS Leader Group email list
  • Quarterly STEPS newsletter
  • Statewide STEPS Leader Contact List
  • 2-monthly facilitated leader teleconferences for business planning, leader reflection and educational topics
  • Access to other local training opportunities, if relevant
  • Videoconferences to offer further STEPS-specific training to Leaders
  • Integrated "STEPS Christmas celebrations" around Queensland, which are reported in a subsequent edition of the STEPS newsletter
  • Distribution of relevant journal articles to STEPS Leaders
  • Face-face Inaugural Queensland STEPS Leader Conference, Brisbane, March 2008
