Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforce Strategic Framework

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforce Strategic Framework 2016–2026 (the Framework) (PDF 11.77MB) aims to increase the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce opportunity across the Queensland Government health sector in clinical, non-clinical and leadership roles.

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforce Strategic Framework guides and supports the development of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workforce planning within Queensland Health. The implementation of the Framework is a key deliverable of the recently released Advancing health service delivery through workforce: A strategy for Queensland 2017-2026.

It is a key enabler to achieving the key directions of My health, Queensland’s future: Advancing health 2026 through empowering the workforce and enabling a culturally capable and responsive workforce that contributes to the provision of quality healthcare across all settings. The Framework aligns to national and state health workforce priorities, including Closing the Gap, and Making Tracks – toward closing the gap in health outcomes for Indigenous Queenslanders by 2033. This in turn will support the economic and social well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The Framework is Queensland Health’s key response to the whole-of-Queensland government strategy, Moving Ahead – A strategic approach to increasing the participation of Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islander people in Queensland’s economy 2016-2022
