Climate change and a sustainable public health system
Queensland Health has taken actions to foster a climate ready and environmentally sustainable public health system. The Climate Risk Strategy 2021 – 2026 (PDF 1202 kB) and the Climate Change Adaptation Planning Guidelines (PDF 2356 kB) outline our plan to adapt to the impact of changing climate on the health system.

The Queensland Health Climate Risk Strategy 2021-2026 (PDF 1202 kB) outlines our plan to provide quality and dependable health care services as climate change impacts our health and well-being.
The Strategy aligns with Queensland Government targets of net zero emissions by 2050.
Climate risk management will be embedded into each aspect of Queensland Health’s management and decision-making processes. This will foster an ongoing, quality public health system that is resilient and adaptive to impacts of the changing climate.
The Strategy will enable a climate-ready workforce culture, resilient infrastructure, reliable health care services, sustainable procurement processes, strong research and innovation, and climate smart environments for all Queenslanders.
The Office of Hospital Sustainability will play a key role in supporting measures to build a low carbon, resilient, and environmentally friendly public health system.
Queensland Health Climate Change adaptation planning guidance
The Queensland Health Climate Change Adaptation Guidelines (PDF 2356 kB) supports all parts of the health system in assessing their future climate risks and creating a plan to manage those risks (a Climate Change Risk Management Plan). The risk management framework used in this document is consistent with leading practice in Queensland Health, Australia and globally.
The Guidelines and supporting documents enable users to integrate identified climate-related risks into existing risk registers.
