Do I need to pay?

MASS provides subsidy funding towards aids/equipment items that are MASS endorsed.

MASS aims to assist as many people as possible, however, as it is a subsidy scheme it may not meet your total needs. In some cases, you may need to make a co-payment.

A co-payment (out-of-pocket expense) may be required if:

  • a MASS approved aid, accessories or modifications exceed the maximum subsidy funding level.
  • accessories or modifications are requested by the applicant but are not funded through MASS (subject to clinical justification provided).
  • You will be advised if there is a copayment (out-of-pocket expense) you are required to pay.
  • If you pay for more than 50% of the cost for an item, you can choose to take ownership, rather than having a permanent loan. However, this means that you are responsible for all repairs to that item.

MASS does not:

  • Reimburse any portion of a person's private funding.
  • Fund items retrospectively, including temporary arrangements made by you, your carer, health professional or other agency for the supply of the aids/equipment items.

Can I get repairs and maintenance for my MASS equipment?

MASS will pay for repairs and maintenance arising from reasonable 'wear and tear' to aids/equipment on permanent loan.

You will need to pay for repairs if:

  • The aids/equipment were funded by other sources, i.e. other government or NGO funding schemes aids
  • The aids/equipment had ownership was transferred to you.

You will need to pay for these repairs.

Make sure you read the operation manual provided by the supplier.  If you have questions about looking after your device, please contact the supplier.
