MASS Stock and Warehouse Access – Daily Living and Mobility Aids

The MASS includes a warehouse in Brisbane and Townsville which holds stock items suitable for allocation for eligible Queensland residents.

MASS has engaged in stock recycling for many years to aid with reducing client copayments, increasing the number of clients that can be assisted within the allocated annual budget and to increasing sustainability through reduced equipment being sent to land fill.

How are stock items selected for re-allocation?

  • MASS equipment items provided to clients on a permanent loan basis are returned to MASS when they are no longer required.
  • Equipment items returned to MASS are all cleaned as per infection control regulations and are inspected by appropriately qualified persons for safety and re-usability.

Why would a stock item be chosen by a prescriber or allocated by MASS?

  • MASS is a subsidy scheme with funding limits per equipment type. Where supply of a newly purchased equipment item and required accessories may have a client copayment above the funding limit, selecting a stock item generally will not incur any copayment for the client.
  • Upon the Request to Trial MASS Stock Application being processed and approved, the MASS teams in Brisbane and Townsville aim to freight stock equipment same or next day where possible, reducing delays of equipment delivery for clients.

How to apply to trial a MASS stock equipment item

  1. Prescribers select a suitable product/model from the publish stock list and email to MASS to reserve the item: MASS-Stock@health.qld.gov.au
    • Prescribers accessing MASS stock should have a good knowledge of products requested with a high degree of certainty regarding the suitability for their clients. Accessing power wheelchairs through MASS Stock requires further discussion regarding individualised suitability with a Clinical Advisor.
    • Where specific accessories/modifications are required on an equipment item or other information is required, our team can assist with these requests or queries via the MASS-Stock email address. Use of MS Teams can be facilitated where required to view the equipment item/s.
  2. Submit a trial application form via MASS-eApply, including the reserved equipment ID number on the form.
  3. Updates on the application can be viewed by the prescriber via MASS-eApply or by contacting MASS.
  4. Upon completion of the trial of the equipment by the client, the prescriber will advise MASS of the outcome.
    • Where successfully trialled, MASS will permanently allocate the equipment to the client on a permanent loan basis as per the MASS Guidelines.
    • Where unsuccessful, MASS will organise collection of the equipment at a time acceptable to the client.
